Ag Minister: Russia’s grain harvest can reach record high in 2022

MOSCOW/VOLGOGRAD, May 27 (PRIME) -- Russia’s 2022 grain harvest can exceed the 2021 volume and approach a record high, Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev said at the All-Russia Grain Forum on Friday.

“Russia’s grain harvest in 2022 can significantly exceed the level of the previous year, and reach the level the president was speaking about, namely, approach a record high,” he said.

In 2021, Russia harvested 120.7 million tonnes of grain including 75.9 million tonnes of wheat. The record high was reached in 2017 with a grain harvest of 135.5 million tonnes including 86 million tonnes of wheat.

Patrushev also said that Russia will maintain the mechanism of grain export quotas in the next season.

The ministry is considering zeroing import duties on rice, Patrushev also said.

“To ensure affordable prices and a wide range of goods in stores, we have abolished import duties on vegetables. Now we are appraising the reasonability of zeroing the duties on rice,” he said.

Deputy Minister Andrei Razin said during his visit to an exhibition in Volgograd that Russian farmers have everything necessary for sowing including seeds and components for the machinery.
